Clare Watt

BSc(Hons) Occupational Therapy (UK)

Clare is an Occupational Therapist with 10 years experience in a range of clinical areas.  Clare graduated from The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland with a BSc (Hons) in Occupational therapy in 2002.  Since graduation, Clare has worked across NHS trusts in Scotland and England gaining experience in many hospital-based and Community settings.

For 5 years Clare worked across a variety of settings assessing and treating clients with various physical difficulties following injury or illness. These settings included orthopaedic, care of the elderly, rheumatology, vascular and also neurological and stroke rehabilitation.  Clare then developed a special interest in brain injury and stroke rehabilitation and found her passion working with clients with a range of cognitive, perceptual and physical difficulties to maximise their independence within many activities of daily living.  In her last role as a Specialist OT for an assisted discharge stroke service, Clare worked closely with clients and their families to facilitate safe discharges from the hospital to the home environment and discover individuals’ potential following a stroke, using a Neurodevelopmental approach to treatment.  Clare completed a Masters module in Advanced skills for Occupational Therapy at the University of Northampton in order to consolidate her assessment and treatment skills in this area and completed an assignment which reviewed the differences between different approaches to upper limb rehabilitation following stroke.

After a career break to have her 2 children and move to Hong Kong, Clare has been tutoring English as a second language to children and adults across both tutoring centres and within individual’s homes. She also supported children of various ages with reading and writing skills and exam preparation. Clare is passionate about combining her experience as an Occupational Therapist and as an English tutor to assist children with special needs to realise their individual potential in their daily lives.

Carrie has been amazing with our son and we have been so happy with the progress he has made in such a short time. After determining the improvement areas, she has guided him through many different exercises while making it fun. When he first visited the clinic he was a reluctant talker, but with her charm and her patience, she has really worked magic. He is now much more confident, he is able to express himself, tell stories and has improved his overall communication skills. He has even started to chat with people he meets for the first time. Thank you so much Carrie, we couldn't have wished for a better speech therapist!
