Jennifer Lau

B.A. in Psychology

Jennifer is a doctoral candidate in the PsyD program in clinical psychology at Alliant International University, Hong Kong. She was raised in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the U.S.A. Jennifer speaks three languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin) and hopes to serve the community of a diverse population.

As a Psychology major at UCLA, she was inducted into the Psi Chi Honors Society with a gold membership, and actively participated in local community services and fundraising campaigns. She was a research assistant at the Emotion Regulation Laboratory at UCLA in 2010 and UCLA Middle School Diversity Project in 2011. Her internships at The Nesbitt Centre and Dr. Tung Psychiatric Clinic have provided opportunities to work with multicultural diversity: clients of different ages, genders, races, classes, religions, sexual orientations, languages, cultures, and disabilities. She loves to work with kids via art and play. Jennifer is particularly concerned with the mental health of foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Her dissertation is titled “Levels of Traumatization in Foreign Domestic Workers and their ResiliencyFactors”, which investigates different types of traumatization in this population.

At SPOT, Jennifer specialises in administrating assessments and counselling children, parents, and families.

When we were looking for a speech therapist in Hong Kong, we were seeking someone with detailed skills based on what we felt our son needed. Carrie has exceeded our expectations with her knowledge, her skills in interacting with our son, and how she communicates with us (the parents). We have seen excellent progress and feel her approach is very honest, knowledgeable, and fun!
