Kay Cheung

M.S. CCC-SLP Speech and Language Therapist

Kay received her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2009. She is a certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Before moving to the United States for her studies Kay lived in Australia and Hong Kong. She speaks English and Cantonese and understands Mandarin.

Kay has worked in both public school and clinic settings. Her experience is in working with children from ages 3 to 16 in the areas of articulation, fluency, receptive and expressive language, apraxia and autism. Prior to returning to Hong Kong, her work consisted mostly of working with individuals with severe sensory and motor challenges that interfered with communication. She is familiar with incorporating OT strategies into sessions to facilitate regulation and optimal learning.

Kay has a special interest in working with children on the autism spectrum that are echolalic. She enjoys reading between the lines to decipher a child’s communicative intent and supporting them in mitigating and developing self-generated language. She believes in looking at children as a whole and therapy that is led by the interests and motivations of the child.

Jess is by far one of the most professional and up to date physiotherapists we have met and we are delighted that she is working with our son with complex physical needs. It is a relief to have someone with a playful, child centred approach that takes into account his personality as well as all his many needs.
