Lilly Smith

Registered Occupational Therapist
BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy

Lilly is a born and bred Hong Konger, who found her way to Occupational Therapy after achieving a First Class Honours degree in French and Linguistics at Oxford University. Her interest in Autism Spectrum Disorders and other neurodevelopmental conditions brought her to complete 2 weeks of work experience at SPOT in 2012, before deciding to head back to the UK to complete her BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy at Oxford Brookes University, also achieving First Class Honours and a GPA of 4.0.

Lilly spent 4 months working at SPOT for her final student placement in 2015 under Virginia Spielmann (then Clinical Director), and so when she decided to return to Hong Kong after a year in Children’s Services for the NHS in Coventry, UK, she was delighted to be able to return to SPOT as a fully fledged OT.

During her time in the NHS, Lilly developed a wide set of skills related to children’s therapy, including assessment, postural management, equipment provision, hand splinting, handwriting, toileting and sleep problems, completing the MNT sleep training course in 2017. She has experience of a range of conditions working in clinics, mainstream and special schools in the UK, and has completed DIR 101, as well as beginning her Sensory Integration training (due to be completed by the end of 2018).

Lilly is a strong advocate for neurodiversity and believes in evidence-based practice; her sessions use play and relationship as the medium to tap into a child’s inner drive to work hard and achieve their goals in life.

After one month of intensive physiotherapy sessions when he was about one year old, I saw my son greatly improve. Now, he is able to crawl quickly and can even crawl up a slide. He also has more eye contact with us.
