Roy Chan – Clinical Psychology Resident

B.A. in Psychology and Communications (University at Buffalo, The State University of New York)  

Roy is a final year doctoral student of a PsyD program at the California School of Professional Psychology, Hong Kong. Roy is from Singapore and he has been in Hong Kong for three years. He speaks three languages (English, Cantonese and Mandarin) and he has worked with both the expat and local population. 

Roy first decided to pursue psychology as a child when his brother was diagnosed with dyslexia. He graduated Magna cum Laude from UB. 

In Hong Kong, Roy has worked with a diverse population including survivors of trauma at Christian Action, teenagers with school or drug related issues at the Thrive residential program, international school students with academic or family stress at The Independent Schools Foundation, and the local population with varying difficulties at the Methodist Centre.  Prior to his doctoral course, Roy worked as an autism therapist at St. Andrews Autism Centre, a centre for children and adults with moderate to profound autism in Singapore. Before embarking on his bachelor studies, Roy was an armoured infantry reconnaissance platoon sergeant with the Singapore Army. 

Roy's is interested in psychodynamic therapy. His dissertation interest concerns the cultural narratives behind the use of alternative treatment methods for children with Autism among Singaporean Chinese parents. 

Roy currently works on assessments and camps at SPOT and he would be happy to work with a diverse range of clients.
