Susan Moriarty – BSc., MPT.

Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology (Canada)
Masters of Physical Therapy (Canada)

Susan graduated from her Masters of Physical Therapy in 2013 from The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Ever since Susan was young she always knew that she was passionate about working with babies, children and teenagers so as soon as she graduated from her physiotherapy degree she went straight into working in the area of pediatrics.

Susan has worked as a physiotherapist with children of all ages and abilities.  Susan spent three years working at a private pediatric physiotherapy clinic in Vancouver. Through this work Susan has become proficient at assessing and treating children with cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, developmental delay, muscular dystrophy, developmental coordination disorder, musculoskeletal conditions and concussion. Susan is also experienced working with infant musculoskeletal conditions such as torticollis and club-foot.

In addition, she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a large, high-acuity hospital in Vancouver, Canada. There she worked with newborn babies to improve their respiratory health, to achieve developmental milestones and to prevent and treat plagiocephaly (flat-head syndrome).

Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Susan worked as a behavioral therapist using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), as a Special Olympics basketball coach and as an adaptive recreation coordinator for children in wheelchairs. Susan is passionate about helping children and teenagers set and achieve physical goals that are specific to the wants and needs of the individual. Susan finds that strong communication between the family, the multi-disciplinary team and the child can make an enormous difference in the child’s physical, mental and emotional success. Through this, Susan believes that every child can maximize their personal potential and learn how to participate meaningfully in their day-to- day life.

This is to express my gratitude for Urvi Kamdar’s ability to identify the core reasons for our son’s deep misery when he started school, when other professionals failed to do so. Following her sessions, addressing difficult tasks in a fun way, we soon saw a happy boy again. Among numerous therapists we met, Urvi stands out as being very professional in her assessment and holistic approach, setting up clear goals, explaining issues well and communicating progress. Urvi’s advice and knowledge has also been the backbone in my discussions with the school and I warmly recommend her to any parent in search for the best Occupational Therapist, Sensory integration certified, for assessment and therapy.
