All children have a desire to connect with others. If your child is withdrawing or showing anxiety in social/group situations, this is for you!
Children can lose opportunities to develop joint attention in relationships due to processing difficulties that leave them feeling anxious, unempowered or in need to control or withdraw from social situations. These therapeutic play pairings aim to change the script.
The sessions are run by an Occupational Therapist, using the DIR framework. We will adapt the environment, to understand, support and celebrate your child’ individual differences. This will support your child to enter a calm and alert neurological state where they can begin to access social opportunities around them in a positive way. We will help your child to express and expand on their own ideas and begin to develop their innate drive to connect with others.
Play and positive relations are vital to healthy development and are the foundation for higher skills and learning.
Practicing social skills is usually most successful within situations that are meaningful and internally motivating for a child. Interaction and practice with other children who share interests with your child are likely to increase the enjoyment of engaging with others.
