Job Description – Doctorial or Clinical Bilingual Psychologist

SPOT has an exciting opportunity for a doctoral or clinical bilingual psychologist. The position is part of a team developing our profile in the bilingual (English and Chinese) space in Hong Kong and across China. Competitive remuneration, including profit share, is available for leading the development of this service.

SPOT is an interdisciplinary children’s therapy centre offering Psychology, Counselling Speech and Language, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Specialist Teaching services. All SPOT therapists are caring, competent, highly qualified and committed to continuing professional development. Our practice offers a child-centred and family-focused atmosphere. Our treatment is developmental, meaningful and fun.

SPOT is located in Central, Wong Chuk Hang, Discovery Bay and Kowloon Bay. We also have outreach services in China. The centre has purpose-built sensory integration therapy rooms for children to participate in sensory-motor and group activities, as well as customised private rooms for individual sessions.

Each child is a unique complex individual, with strengths and challenges, who deserves to be treated as such. Therefore, we believe Psychology, Counselling, Speech and Language, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy support are important on their own, as well as in conjunction with each other. We focus on a dynamic, systems, team approach in treating the WHOLE CHILD. The SPOT Centre is a paediatric facility serving a multitude of populations and disorders across Hong Kong and Asia.

The Role includes
a) Professional diagnosis and evaluation of the nature and severity of mental and emotional disorders in individual patients, families, and/or groups;
b) Administration, assessment, and interpretation of various psychological tests and assessments;
c) Formulation, implementation, and evaluation of a range of psychological therapeutic treatment plans;
d) Establish and maintain patient medical records in accordance with regulations, policies, and established practices.
e) Provide seminars, workshops, and training programs for the parents, teachers and students
f) Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team
g) The option to become the leader of our bilingual team and earn profit share of this expansion.

Experiences
Post-doctoral level experience in paediatric psychology

SPOT is looking for a bilingual counsellor!

Job Summary: 

The primary role of the Child & Family Counsellor is to provide services to children and their families as assigned to you by SPOT Centre Ltd. 

As a committed member of the multi-disciplinary team the Child & Family Counsellor will be responsible for evaluation of the child / parent within the context of family relationships; and the planning and provision of holistic care and input as appropriate. The Child & Family Counsellor will also be responsible for appropriate communication (verbal & written) with service coordinators, family members, carers, physicians, educators and insurance companies. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Masters in counselling and a minimum of 3 years experience. 
  • Complete thorough evaluations of children and their families, inclusive of but not restricted to: mental health, attachment, relationships, family history, bereavement, coping skills, stress, trauma, emotional resilience and behavioural challenges.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate and meaningful interventions to meet the individual needs of the client.  Never knowingly recommend input for a client unnecessarily.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients.
  • Agree upon a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions (including confidentiality issues).
  • Accept without bias the issues raised by clients; helping clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns; encouraging clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others; actively listening to client concerns and empathising with their position; challenging any inconsistencies in what clients say or do; helping clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward.
  • Undertake group as well as individual therapy on occasions.
  • Referral within the SPOT MDT according to the best interests of the child and only when appropriate.
  • Referral to specialist services as appropriate, including but not limited to psychological services, medical specialists, psychiatric services, behavioural specialists, and other agencies as appropriate. 
  • Responsible for timely documentation of intervention, progress reports, discharge reports, daily notes, and insurance justifications as required.
  • Communication with the child’s referring General Practitioner via letters / emails acknowledging referral and any other information that client requests be shared within limitations of confidentiality agreement.
  • Collaboratively incorporate best practices and demonstrate a willingness to question established practices.
  • Assist in developing strategic and long-range plans for SPOT Centre Ltd.
  • Attend staff meetings and MDT case review meetings with at least an 80% attendance rate.
  • Maintain professional competency and high standards of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning by committing to a CPD plan with 6-12 month reviews with the Clinical Director. Regularly attend appropriate professional development courses as practical.
  • Attend supervision with a senior therapist as appropriate. Undertake personal therapy on a regular basis (as required by accreditation board and personal development requirements) and to actively participate and use supervision and personal development plans to promote clinical and personal effectiveness and competence of self.
  • Annually, review and sign the SPOT policy and procedure manual.
  • Adhere to SPOT Centre Ltd safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain registration to practise with Hong Kong Board of Counsellors. Provide up to date copies of registration certificates to Clinical Director.
  • Maintain personal liability insurance. Provide up to date copies of insurance certificates to Clinical Director.
  • Perform any other duties that are from time to time deemed necessary by the Clinical Director.
  • Actively support and provide incidental instruction and direction to clinical support staff as appropriate. 
  • Provide a minimum of one presentation annually to each school you provide services in (this is paid by SPOT)
