Feeding Therapy

We are now offering the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to feeding therapy at SPOT.  If your child is a picky eater and it is impacting their nutrition, growth, attention and ability to participate in social outings or family meals, this maybe an approach worth investigating.

Joice Almeida is a Speech and Language Therapist who is trained and experienced in the SOS approach. Our feeding team work collaboratively to provide individualised expert support for each child and family.

Please email joice.almeida@spot.com.hk for more information.

We also offer Beckman Oral Motor Therapy which our Occupational Therapist Anna Reeves is certified to provide.
The Beckman Oral Motor Protocol uses assisted movement and stretch reflexes to quantify response to pressure and movement, range, strength, variety and control of movement for the lips cheeks, jaw, tongue and soft palate. The assessment is based on clinically defined functional parameters of minimal competence and does not require the cognitive participation of the individual. Because these components of movement are functional, not age specific, the protocol is useful with a wide range of ages (birth to geriatric) and diagnostic categories.

Please email anna.reeves@spot.com.hk for more information or to arrange an appointment.

Joice and Anna co-run the Munch Bunch feeding group. This group gently encourages children to interact with food in a playful, non-stressful way, beginning with the ability to tolerate the food in the room and in front of him/her; then moving on to touching, kissing, and eventually tasting and eating foods.

Jess is by far one of the most professional and up to date physiotherapists we have met and we are delighted that she is working with our son with complex physical needs. It is a relief to have someone with a playful, child centred approach that takes into account his personality as well as all his many needs.
