Joyce completed her Bachelor of Medical Science in Speech Science with First Class Honours at the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom). She is a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a full member of the Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapist (HKAST). Joyce is also trained in the use of PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Motor Phonetic Targets), PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and certified in DIR Floortime 101.
She has experiences working in a variety of settings in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong including voice clinics, special schools, mainstream kindergartens and schools, community rehabilitation centres and private clinics. With a great passion for paediatrics, she pursued her career in a non-government organisation (NGO) that supports pre-schoolers with diverse speech and language needs upon returning to Hong Kong. Her experiences involve supporting children with a variety of diagnoses and difficulties, including children who are on the Autism Spectrum, individuals with ADHD, Selective Mutism, Cleft Palate, articulation and phonological delays and social communication difficulties. She is fluent in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.
Joyce is passionate in providing child-orientated interventions and particularly enjoys incorporating the child’s interests and motivators into her sessions as she believes that children learn best when motivated and engaged. She is also committed in providing holistic interventions through collaborating closely with the child’s parents and caregivers. She empowers parents to carry out parent-directed interventions at home and believes that continuous collaborative effort could bring forth positive therapeutic outcomes. Most of all, Joyce strongly believes that one’s potential should never be limited by their diagnoses and every child could shine in their own way when provided with suitable holistic support.
