Strategic Minds for Teenagers
Strategic MindsExecutive functioning (EF) skills serve as the brain’s “air traffic control system,” coordinating complex mental processes that allow us to manage our thoughts, actions, and emotions to achieve goals. These skills are crucial for planning, organization, decision-making, and self-regulation.
This group will focus on supporting teens as they move through secondary school and help them to understand how their brain works and how to work ‘smarter not harder’.
Areas of Focus:
Task Initiation: Identifying techniques to overcome procrastination and start assignments promptly.
Strategic Planning: Breaking overwhelming “big” projects into manageable, bite-sized steps and managing their time successfully
Digital & Physical Systems: Setting up personalised checklists and reminders that work for them
Metacognition: Introducing reflective strategies to help them recognise what’s working and where they need to adapt
Self regulation and stress management: Identifying existing stressors and implementing healthy coping strategies.
Cognitive Flexibility: Being able to “shift gears” when plans change or a strategy isn’t working, rather than having a meltdown.
